The Gateway To The Weekend Is Open

The warm autumn days are being followed by cool nights which is perfect weather for wearing my favourite Friday night attire…..pink pyjamas with penguins and a t-shirt.  Sheer heaven!

I’m clearing the decks of my sewing WISPS, as I’ll be starting a bed size quilt as soon as they are done….. and things are mostly zooming along….

Meet Owlfonzo the Explorer…..He was hatched last weekend by The Missus and I from a pair of Explorer socks.  He will be joined soon by his life partner Owlawishus and their bouncing baby Owlbert.

I put this stitchery in a “safe place”, which made perfect sense…..at the time….After searching all the places it could be,  I found it in one of the places it couldn’t be!  I’m using this bag for small knitting projects.  I added a button and bias loop to the top after the piccie was taken.

Same with this one…..and it is fun mooching through my stash looking for the right fabric.

I managed to include three orphan blocks in this laptop runner.  On their own they are extremely gruesome…..I’m quite pleased with the way they look together.

This is A Merry Kitty Klawz by Val’s Stuff from JCS 2007 Christmas special…..One can never keep a craft magazine for too long!  It was my April ornament for the Festive Ornament SAL

These little chocolate bunnies were my one and only Easter ornament this year.  The pattern is from the blog Matryoshka Biscornue I stitched it on 20 count pearle linen, so it is quite tiny.

I’ve managed to get over the hump on the Halloween Fairy……after making froggable mistakes six times in the same spot I decided last year to put it away for a while.  I pulled it out last weekend, promising myself that I could make a Halloween ornament after I had finished the section I was stuck on.  I enjoyed it so much that I kept going and did some of the pumpkin.  I’ll post a piccie of my progress soon……I’m too comfy on the settee tonight!

Have a WONDERFUL weekend…..

Christmas Kitty

Ta daaaaaaaaa! Christmas Kitty by The Cat’s Whiskers – my first FOSAL  finish for the year. I sat it on the box I’m storing the ornaments in for the year.

To choose next month’s ornament, I asked The Missus to pick a number between 1 and 12. She chose 7, which is Row of Trees from Jill Oxton’s Cross Stitch Special Issue 1.

It Ort To Be

My ort jar….sparkly and shiny all ready to be filled each month.  I love these jam jars…..look  lovely filled with buttons….as well a orts!

Christmas Kitty is well on the way to being finished.  It is hot here today – 36 degrees C at lunchtime….and a maximum of 40 degrees C.  The airconditioner is going and Pakistan are batting in the cricket.  I’ve started joining the two sides of this FOSAL ornament as I cheer on the Aussies…..which is a bit dicy, as I trimmed it too close…Slow and careful progress is in order I think!

I had a mooch this morning for another finish this morning which has disappeared!  I quilted an orphan block with bamboo batting…..lovely stuff….to use as a heat/non-scratch pad on the dining table.  I have NO idea where it is.  I’m sure it will turn up soon.

In Holiday Mode

The fuzziness of the photo reflects the fuzziness of my brain!  Last night I participated in the Friday Night Sew-In …….a week early!  Now that is what I call relaxed….or very eager. lol I started this cross stitch last night and finished it off this morning.  It is Christmas Kitty (Itty Bitty Series; The Cat’s Whiskers) I’m going to stitch 2010 on the back and give it a border of Christmassy red and green seed beads.  I plan on having it finished before the end of the month, as it is my January project for the Festive Ornament SAL If you enjoy stitching Christmas ornaments, come on over…..there are places to be filled!

Before I run off screaming every time I see something green I decided to have a break from slicing green bricks for The Missus’ lap quilt, so I’ve been doing a bit of stitching on My Needle’s Work.  She was previously headless and there was no vine or flowers.  When I’ve finished this I will work on the TOT Fairy and then on to Waiting For The Mists To Clear.   With little projects in between, I will be happily stitching for the rest of the year and longer!

Counting Our Blessings

The Universe has a way of whopping you one when least expected….We got the bushfire “if you are leaving, go now” SMS on our phones yesterday. That combined with seeing gum trees exploding a few houses down from us at the end of our street and four fire bombers going hard at it meant we didn’t hesitate. We bundled Lestat into his travel box, Nibbles into a pillowcase, grabbed our shoulder bags and left. The Missus said I went all shades of grey when I told her we were leaving. It was a horrible decision to make, but not hard, because we were taking what we valued most…..each other and our pets. Passing through the road block was heart wrenching, as I knew we could not go back until whatever was going to happen was over. We were lucky, the fire was contained and there were no injuries (including to my fingers as I held the top of the pillow case shut on an irate weiro) or property damage. The area is still considered “at risk”, so Lestat and Nibbles are at the vet’s until everything is clear. The Missus and I are home and counting our blessings. We both feel very lucky.

The Missus took this piccie of me holding up a quilt top I finished on Sunday night. It had started off as “I’m Blushing”, but evolved into Lestat’s new cover for the kitchen chair he hides/sleeps on, as I ran out of fabric. He currently has a sarong which he gets tangled up in when he tries to get underneath it. He gets most miffed about it, as he previously had the end of a table cloth to hide under. He considers a quilt will be MUCH more suitable!

I’ve been slicing and dicing 6 ½ x 3 ½ inch green bricks today for my next two projects. One set will be for the green strip on a tablecloth with a coin purse design in the lesbian/gay Pride colours with black for the borders. The other set is for a double sided green lap quilt for The Missus. Green is her favourite colour.

The FOSAL rules have changed slightly, so if you would prefer to pick a new project each month, you can. I’ve mooched through some of my Christmas cross stitch patterns and have come up with my “lucky dip” list for FOSAL. My list is…..

A Merry Kitty Klaws – Val’s Stuff; JCS 2007

Be Merry – Val’s Stuff; JCS 2009

My January pick is Christmas Kitty by The Cat’s Whiskers.

Heidi is co-hosting a Friday Night Sew-In on 15th Jan for night of stitchy goodness…..The details are here. I will be there in my pj’s with a cup of tea, some chocolate and I have no idea what kind of sewing yet! It is a safe bet to assume it will either be machine or hand sewing! 😉

One of Lestat’s favourite hidey holes is a paper bag. It’s not very often that we get a paper bag big enough to fit him, but when we do he makes a bee line for it. As you can see by the look on his face, it is a very serious business.
